Heat Pump Repair

Ask yourself this:  Does your heat pump cool or heat properly?  Do you find it freezing up?  Does it cycle too frequently?

What’s a heat pump?

Great question, I’m glad you asked! A heat pump system has ONLY two purposes. One, it removes heat from a room to cool down an area. Two, it can pull heat from the air outside to warm up a room. Using very minimal energy, a heat pump system can transfer heat from one place to another and can be used for either cooling in the summer or heating for the winter.

What’s the difference between Central AC and heat pump?

Both of the HVAC systems rely on the same basic technology, but are deployed in a different way.

Central air conditioning uses a closed loop system where refrigerant is used to cool the air. The refrigerant travels through a compressor valve that subjects it to a great deal of heat and pressure, then into a compressor coil that pushes the heat into the outside air. Reverting to its liquid state, the refrigerant moves through series of evaporator coils and evaporates into cool air, which is then blown into a system of ducts.

A heat pump system is similar to a central air conditioning but is able to blow hot air into the home instead of outside the home. This allows the system to function as a heater in the winter and an air conditioner in the summer. These are said to be more efficient, though they struggle when the weather gets particularly cold.

Maintenance.

With regular maintenance you can minimize the repairs that the unit will need over its lifetime. As your system ages, it’s guaranteed that some type of servicing and repair will be required.

Some signs for repairs are:

  • A loss of power
  • Doesn’t turn on when needed
  • Circuit breaker to trip repeatedly
  • Heat pump freezes over
  • Unit turns on and off too often
  • Blower stops working
  • Unusual noises in the pump itself

If any of these issues sound familiar to you contact us today to schedule an appointment!  Don’t wait until it completely breaks down, resulting in expensive costs and time.
